Born in Italy and raised in Canada since 1989, Merhawi Tekle has spent his life building bridges between communities and careers. Growing up in Chelmsford and Toronto, he played soccer with the Eritrean Community Association of Ontario, an experience that strengthened his leadership, teamwork, and passion for mentorship. A graduate of Yorkdale Collegiate Institute and Centennial College, Merhawi’s educational background reflects his dedication to technical mastery and lifelong learning. His dual careers — in public service and entrepreneurship — demonstrate a rare balance of compassion and discipline. In addition to running People’s Choice Construction, Merhawi also owns People’s Choice Car Rental & Services Inc., expanding his entrepreneurial footprint and providing reliable transportation solutions within the Toronto area. When not managing his businesses or supporting emergency services, Merhawi dedicates time to coaching soccer, training at the gym, and mentoring youth athletes, embodying his belief that community growth starts with active participation. Merhawi continues to represent the values of hard work, safety, and service — from the field to the workshop, and from the emergency bay to the soccer pitch.
